PLAN COMMISSION (Special Meeting)

September 1, 2006

Members present:  Breault, Gilbert, Caruso and Bieraugel

Others present:  Dennis Darnold

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Breault at 7:30 a.m.

Acquisition of property for park purposes, part of former hospital site, 400 Wisconsin Street – City Attorney.  Breault noted that this meeting was scheduled at the request of the city attorney to discuss and provide a recommendation to acquire part of the former hospital site for park purposes.  Darnold noted that part of the site, essentially west of Blakeman Drive, was previously part of Prospect Park prior to the sale of the property to the hospital in the early 1950’s; and the land is immediately adjacent to the existing Prospect Park.

Moved by Gilbert, seconded by Caruso to recommend to purchase part of the former hospital site (except for the parking lot adjacent to Laurel Avenue and the east 160 feet of the parking lot adjacent to Wisconsin Street) for park purposes as part of the area was previously part of Prospect Park prior to early 1950, the land is adjacent to the existing Prospect Park and the land is well suited for park use and a good addition to the city of Hudson park system.  Motion carried.

Amendment to the city of Hudson comprehensive plan and city of Hudson recreational plan to designate the former hospital site as park property, Resolution 1-06 – Park Board.  Don Gilbert reported that the park board has reviewed the city of Hudson recreation plan (element of the city of Hudson comprehensive plan) to include the acquisition and development of part of the former hospital site for park purposes.

Moved by Bieraugel, seconded by Caruso to approve Resolution 1-06 to amend the city of Hudson comprehensive plan to change the future land use designation, part of the former park property, except the easterly 160 feet of the parking lot area south of Wisconsin Street and approximately west 140 feet of the parking lot north of Laurel Avenue, from Public to Park and  to accept the Park Board recommendation to amend the city of Hudson recreation plan to include the acquisition and development of part of the former hospital site for future project considerations.  Motion carried.

Other matters for discussion purposes only.  Darnold reminded the commission members that the next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 7, 2006.

Moved by Gilbert, seconded by Caruso to adjourn.  Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Dennis D. Darnold, Secretary
